Can we expect the Black Friday 2022 deal on Kindle Scribe? Will the price of Kindle Paperwhite go below $70? Will we see the biggest Kindle Oasis 3 deal ever? Here are our predictions.
Update November 20, 2022: Black Friday 2022 Kindle deals are already here! Check out the prices for Kindle e-readers and Kindle bundles.
The Black Friday 2022 is coming, and this year more customers than ever will try to hunt for savings whenever it’s possible.
Are you planning to buy a new Kindle this shopping season? What price are you going to accept, and which model is your favorite?
Amazon has dramatically refreshed the Kindle range in recent weeks. First, the entry-level Kindle 11 was launched, with a crisp 300 ppi display, adjustable front light, fast USB-C port, and 16 GB of storage.
Two weeks later, the stunning Kindle Scribe 1 was announced. It’s Amazon’s first e-paper device designed for both reading and writing, comes with handwriting support, and features a large 10.2-inch display.
We expect the slight deal for the Kindle 11, usual deal for the Paperwhite 5, the record low price for the Oasis 3, and no deal at all for the Scribe 1.
Below, you will find Kindle price predictions (together with our rationale) for Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2022, based on deal prices offered during shopping events on Amazon since 2016.

Kindle 11
- Event: Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2022
- Model: Basic Kindle, 11th generation, 2022 release
- Expected price: $69.99
I’m very curious how Amazon will set the Black Friday price of the newest basic Kindle.
Obviously, you can’t expect the price to drop by 50% or more (we saw for Kindle 10 during Prime Day 2022), but the chances are you will be able to save enough money to get a third-party Kindle 11 case cover.
Kindle 11 was announced on September 13, 2022. It was available for pre-order on the same day, with shippings starting on October 12, 2022. It’s worth highlighting that the newest base Kindle was not discounted during the first autumn Prime Day, which was running on October 11 and 12.
The 2022 Kindle (the entry-level variant, with lockscreen ads) comes with a crisp 300 dpi glare-free display, USB-C port for fast charging, 16 GB storage, and a battery that lasts up to 6 weeks. It costs $99, so it’s $10 more expensive than its predecessor, Kindle 10.
As you will see in the tables with the Kindle price history for both Black Friday and Prime Day, the prices were cut by at least $30, even when the 10th-generation Kindle was launched in 2019.
Having in mind that the regular price of Kindle 11 is $99, we are quite sure you will be able to get it for $75 during Black Friday 2022. The price may go down to even $69, but it depends on the current demand for this model.

Kindle 11 main features
16 GB storage – at the time of launch, the 2022 Kindle model offers 16 GB of storage, out of which approximately 14 GB is available to the user. It’s worth noting that so far, the Paperwhite 5 was offered with 8 GB of storage, but the 16 GB variant was introduced at the same time Kindle 11 was announced.
6-inch, 300 ppi touchscreen – the new high-resolution display has three times more pixels than the previous model, offering sharper text and images in a paper-like feel. The previous-generation basic Kindle from 2019 had a display with a 167 ppi pixel density, the new one offers 300 ppi.
USB-C port – USB-C becomes the standard in charging and data transfer. It lets you charge and send data to and from the Kindle much faster than the standard USB port. You will need approximately 2 hours to fully charge the Kindle 11 using a 9W USB-C power adapter (not included in the box).
6 weeks of battery life – the new Kindle 11 offers 50% more battery life than the previous generation basic Kindle model. Instead of 4, you now have 6 weeks of peace of mind, before you start looking for a charger. The calculation is based on the assumption that you read for half an hour a day, with the display brightness set at level 13.
Dark Mode – like the 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite and the latest Kindle Scribe, the 2022 Kindle comes with the Dark Mode. The feature inverts colors on the screen. The display background is black and text is white. You can toggle Dark Mode in the Quick Access menu.
Built-in Audible player – just like other models, Kindle 11 doesn’t come with either speakers or headphone jack. However, you can easily listen to Audible audiobooks via connected Bluetooth earphones or speakers.
Kindle 11 pros and cons
Benefits | Disadvantages |
▸ High-resolution 300 ppi display ▸ Battery life extended to 6 weeks ▸ 16 GB memory with no extra charge ▸ Slim design with thinner bezel around the display ▸ Sustainable production process ▸ USB-C port for fast charging and data transfer |
▸ No warm light ▸ No headphone jack, which is still the simplest solution for audiobook playing ▸ No black cover in Kids Edition ▸ No USB-C power charger included in the box ▸ No white variant ▸ Not compatible with case covers for earlier generation model |
Kindle Paperwhite 5
- Event: Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2022
- Model: Kindle Paperwhite, 5th generation, 2021 release
- Expected price: $89.99
The 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite 5 was released in October 2021. Its regular price is $139.99.
It’s an essential upgrade of Kindle Paperwhite 4, offering a larger 6.8-inch glare-free 300 ppi E-ink display, warm light, and USB-C. It comes with 8 GB and 16 GB of storage, as well as USB-C port for faster charging and data transfer. The battery life is extended to even 10 weeks.
Just like in the case of Amazon Fire HD 8, Kindle Paperwhite 5 is offered in two versions. The premium one is called “Signature.” It costs $189.99 (for the entry-level configuration) and comes with three exclusive features: 32 GB memory, auto-adjusting front light, and wireless charging.
The price of the 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite was cut to $105 during last year’s Black Friday ($35 off) and to $95 during the summer Prime Day 2022 ($45 off).
This Black Friday, two new models joined the Amazon Kindle range: the basic Kindle 11, and Kindle Scribe. The basic Kindle 11 will get the deal price, but the Scribe will not.
The 2022 Black Friday price for Kindle Paperwhite 5 is therefore the hardest to predict. I believe you won’t see a price higher than $100, but on the other hand, you can’t expect it to drop by $50.
The most optimistic prediction is $89 for Kindle Paperwhite 5 Regular, with ads and 8 GB of storage.

Kindle Paperwhite 5 main features
Bigger 6.8-inch display with front light – the new display is 13% larger than in the previous-generation Kindle Paperwhite, released in 2018. Its diagonal length (the distance between opposite corners) is 6.8 inches, instead of 6.
Only a bit bigger size – despite the considerably larger screen, the overall size of the 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite is not dramatically higher. Its height is 6.9 inches (174 mm), instead of 6.6 inches (167 mm) – only 7 mm bigger. It was achieved by reducing the bezel around the display.
Adjustable warm light – adjustable warm light lets you control the color of the front lighted screen. In the evening, you can switch from blue light to a warmer tone to reduce eye strain and minimize the negative effect on sleep.
USB-C port for faster charging – the Paperwhite 6.8 is the first Kindle to sport the USB-C port for faster charging and data transfer. It’s a useful feature if you still add your own books and audiobooks via the cable. You will need less than 3 hours to fully recharge Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 via 5W USB-C charger.
Over twice longer battery life – you won’t need the USB-C port too much, however. The battery in the 2021 Kindle Paperwhite will need recharging not after 4 but even 10 weeks.
Kindle Paperwhite 5 pros and cons
Benefits | Disadvantages |
▸ Large 6.8 inch display ▸ Warm light ▸ Extended battery life ▸ Slim design ▸ Small, paperback book dimensions ▸ Sustainable production process ▸ IPX8 waterproof level ▸ USB-C port |
▸ No cellular variant ▸ No adjustable light in the Regular version ▸ No microSD card ▸ No USB-C power charger included in the box ▸ Only Black color variant |
Kindle Oasis 3
- Event: Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2022
- Model: Kindle Oasis, 3rd generation, 2019 release
- Expected price: $149.99
When launched in summer 2019, Kindle Oasis 3 was the most advanced Kindle e-reader to date, and the regular price set at $249.99 didn’t seem too high for a device that exceptional.
In 2021, Kindle Paperwhite 5 was launched, with the 6.8-inch display with adjustable warm light and front light. The Oasis has the 7-inch warm display. The Paperwhite costs $139.99, the Oasis almost twice as much.
And in 2022, Kindle Scribe 1 was announced, suddenly making the Oasis 3 look outdated. The Scribe features the large 10.2-inch display. Most importantly, it is the first Amazon e-paper device that supports handwriting. And it comes with dedicated battery-free pens.
The only benefit left is the asymmetric design of the Oasis that helps keep it in one hand. The gravity point was moved to the side, by placing an internal battery and most other components in the grip area. Thanks to that, your hand won’t hurt even if you keep the device in the same position for long hours.
Would you buy the 7-inch Oasis, if you have the 6.8-inch Paperwhite? Would you buy the Oasis, if it’s not the largest Kindle e-reader any longer, and doesn’t support handwriting?
I expect Amazon to dramatically reduce the price of the Oasis 3, if the company wants to clear stock of this model. The Black Friday 2022 price for Kindle Oasis 3 could be set between $150 and $170. $149.99 for the variant with 8 GB storage and lockscreen ads is more possible than ever before.

Kindle Oasis 3 main features
Adjustable warm light – it lets you control the color of the front lighted screen. In the evening, you can replace blue light with a warmer tone to reduce eye strain and minimize the negative effect on sleep.
Large, 7-inch touchscreen – the display has an increased resolution of 1680 × 1264 pixels and comes with 300 ppi pixel density. It displays crisp text and helps enjoy larger documents with fixed layout.
Asymmetric design – it shifts the center of gravity to one side to help you keep the e-reader comfortably in one hand for long hours.
Waterproof index IPX8 – Kindle Oasis 3 is tested to withstand immersion in 2 meters of fresh water for 60 minutes. And it’s built to withstand getting splashed at the beach or dropped in the bathtub, hot tub, or pool.
Bigger storage – the Oasis 3 comes with either 8 or 32 GB of storage. The bigger storage is not to pack dozens of thousands of ebooks. It’s there to download dozens of audiobooks. An audio file is much larger than a text file.
Kindle Scribe 1
- Event: Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2022
- Model: Kindle Scribe, 1st generation, 2022 release
- Expected price: $339.99 – no deal
Kindle Scribe 1 is Amazon’s hottest device in years. It comes with a large 10.2-inch high-resolution display, asymmetric design, battery-free pen, and a variety of handwriting templates (notebook, to-do-list, and diary, among them).
The e-reader is offered in three storage variants (16, 32 and 64 GB), is equipped with a USB-C port for fast charging and data transfer.
Most importantly, the Scribe is the first Amazon e-paper device that supports handwriting. You can choose from two compatible pens – Basic or Premium – that come free with a chosen Kindle Scribe variant.
The Scribe was announced on September 28, 2022, and available for pre-order the same day. The launch date is November 30, 2022. It means that pre-ordered devices start shipping this very day, no earlier.
And here is the bad news. The launch of the Scribe happens after Black Friday 2022, which is on November 25. In the entire history, no single Amazon-made device was offered for a reduced price before the official launch. So, no Kindle Scribe 1 Black Friday deal this year.
However, you can expect extra incentives to be offered during the Black Friday & Cyber Monday weekend. I expect Amazon to extend the 4-month free Kindle Unlimited plan to 6 months.
Kindle Scribe 1 Black Friday price prediction: $339.99 – no deal
Kindle Scribe 1 main features
Large 10.2-inch display – this high-resolution, 300 ppi touch screen with Paperwhite technology is glare-free and can be used even in direct sunlight – not only for reading, but also writing.
Handwriting support – you can use the pen that comes free with Kindle Scribe to make handwritten notes, annotations, or write your own notebooks, journal entries, and lists. Writing on the Scribe feels like writing on paper. Handwritten document markup is possible with pdf files.
Dedicated pens – you can get the Kindle Scribe with either the Basic or Premium pen. Both are battery-fee and attach magnetically to the side of the device. The Premium stylus comes with a dedicated eraser and shortcut button.
Notebook templates – Kindle Scribe can be also used as a notebook for writing journal entries, making to-do lists, or doodling. You can choose from a number of templates, such as lined paper, blank paper, or checklists. The notebooks you create are managed on the Scribe and will come to the web-based Kindle app in early 2023.
USB-C port – USB-C becomes the standard in charging and data transfer. It lets you charge and send data to and from the Scribe much faster than the standard USB port. You will need approximately 2.5 hours to fully charge the Scribe using a 9W USB-C power adapter (not included in the box).
12 weeks of battery life – larger device needs more energy, but the Scribe offers the longest battery life in the Kindle range. It’s up to three months, based on reading for half-and hour a day. If you read actively, make frequent notes or write a journal, the battery will last up to three weeks.
Dark Mode – like the 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite and the latest Kindle 11, the Scribe comes with the Dark Mode. The feature inverts colors on the screen. The display background is black and text is white. You can toggle Dark Mode in the Quick Access menu.
