The newest entry-level iPad features the bigger 10.2-inch Retina display and is compatible with both Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard.
The 7th-generation entry-level Apple iPad model was announced on September 10, 2019, and starts shipping at the end of the month.
Apple iPad 10.2-inch is available in two storage variants: 32 or 128 GB – the same as its predecessor, the 9.7-inch iPad launched in March 2018.
The price is also the same. For the variant with 32 GB of internal memory and Wi-Fi connectivity, you will pay $329. The most expensive version, 128 GB combined with Wi-Fi & Cellular, costs $559.
Compared to its predecessor, the new iPad features a bigger 10.2-inch Retina display with a 2160 × 1620 px screen resolution and 264 ppi pixel density. With a wide viewing angle and almost 3.5 million pixels, the display becomes “a vivid canvas for creative expression and perfect for immersive augmented reality experiences.”
For the first time, the basic iPad is compatible with the full-size Smart Keyboard. So, besides the 1st-generation Apple Pencil, you will be able to equip the iPad with everything you need to turn it into a fully-fledged laptop – and so much more!
These two accessories are sold separately. Apple Pencil (1st-generation) costs $99 in the US. For the Smart Keyboard, you will pay $159.
Apple iPad 10.2 (2019) is equipped with A10 Fusion chip, thanks to which the newest model “brings up to two times faster performance over the top-selling Windows PC4 for powerful multitasking and smooth gameplay in Apple Arcade.”
What’s important, the new iPad was built to run the new iPadOS operating system, which will let you do more – faster. According to Greg Joswiak, responsible at Apple for product marketing:
This new iPad with iPadOS takes everything people love about our most popular iPad and makes it even better for creating, learning, working and playing.
Do you wonder what will happen with the previous-generation iPad 9.7? It’s still available on Amazon, for a price reduced to $279 from $329.

Like a computer. Unlike any computer
The new iPad combines the power and capability of a computer with the ease of use and versatility you’d never expect from one. And now it’s even more versatile, with a larger 10.2‑inch Retina display, support for the full-size Smart Keyboard, and the amazing new capabilities of iPadOS. It’s unbelievably fun. And unmistakably iPad.
Kick some serious tasks
With iPad, getting work done is all hustle and no hassle. You can easily edit a document while researching something on the web and making a FaceTime call to a colleague at the same time. Manage all your files in one convenient spot with the Files app. And when you want to write a term paper or create a presentation, you can simply use the onscreen keyboard or attach the full‑size Smart Keyboard.
Jot ’til you drop
From taking notes in class to writing out a quick to-do list, using Apple Pencil with iPad is the best way to get what’s in your brain down on the page.1 Do things like sign paperwork, mark up a document, or sketch out an idea. It feels as natural to use as a pencil, but with so much more capability.
Learn your lesson the fun way
Let your curiosity run wild with iPad. The App Store is the best place to discover apps that let you get a leg up in geometry, learn a new language, and practice composing your own music. You can even use augmented reality to learn something exciting, like watching the history of spaceflight unfold in your living room or making characters from your favorite book literally leap off the page.
Live your best extra life
It’s go time for gaming. The A10 Fusion chip delivers amazing performance, so games are immersive, fluid, and incredibly detailed. And you can pair an Xbox Wireless Controller with Bluetooth, PlayStation DualShock 4 controller, or MFi game controller with your iPad to create the ultimate portable game console.2 You can also try out Apple Arcade, a game subscription service unlike any other, with over 100 incredibly fun new games to play.
