Are you waiting for a white version of the 4th-generation Kindle Paperwhite? It may be released in June, just for Prime Day 2019.
Amazon has too many reasons to introduce the white version of the Kindle Paperwhite 4. If it’s going to happen, it will happen very soon, most probably in the first half of June, to draw enough attention to the Kindle before customers complete their summer holiday shopping lists.
Many users dream about the Kindle in every imaginable color, on condition that it is white. And the new basic Kindle (11th-generation) was launched in two color versions, not just black. Its front lighted display with better contrast meets the expectations of most readers. Therefore, why pay $130 for the black Paperwhite that I can take to a bathtub if I can get a lovely white Kindle for $40 less and take it anywhere else?
The sign that the basic Kindle is cannibalizing the sales of the Paperwhite is a Mother’s Day 2019 Kindle sale. For the first time, the price of the 4th-generation Kindle Paperwhite was slashed by as much as $40. It’s a huge price cut offered five months after the launch – too soon.
Mother’s day Kindle deals were never as attractive as the ones offered for Prime Day or Black Friday. It means Amazon may have a problem with the Paperwhite.
And now comes Prime Day 2019. The price of Kindle Paperwhite can go down even to $79.99 – if there is no extra excitement built around that model. Introduction of the white version would create such excitement and allow Amazon to keep the Prime Day price at $89.99.
A white version of the 3rd-generation Kindle Paperwhite was introduced in June 2016 – a year after the main release. Theoretically, Amazon could do the same, and launch the white Paperwhite 4 in autumn. There are two disadvantages, though. A release of a new color variant is not a significant update. Autumn should be reserved for the launch of a next-generation Kindle Oasis. Secondly, white means summer. I couldn’t be excited about a new white device in October or November as much as I would be in June or July.
If you are waiting for the white version of the Kindle Paperwhite, make sure to follow the news in the coming weeks. If it does not happen by the end of June, it may be delayed until spring or summer 2020.
Note: Above the post you see a visualization of how the white version of the 4th-generation Kindle Paperwhite would look like. It’s based on the design of the current black variant. It’s not the actual image of the product!
